I'm thinking of trying it for 30 days or so, just wondering if it really works, seems like all you would eat is carbs!Does the vegan diet really work?

Vegetarian diet: How to get the best nutrition

You need to do some research on vegan food. It's a common misconception that vegan food is just a bunch of carbs and rabbit food- Where this misconception comes from is, omnivores think of what they eat currently and then they think out of that- what is vegan? What you end up with is carbs and rabbit food. You have to understand vegan cuisine is a whole new world of food you may not have been introduced to yet. Forget about what you ate before- vegan food is different.

By " does it work" I assume you mean does it help you lose weight. There are plenty of fat vegans out there, but it's because they are not eating properly. One thing that helps tremendously with weight control in a vegan diet is there aren't really saturated fats. The fats that you will be intaking are unsaturated- it's the saturated kind that makes you fat along with sugar- which is vegan- so watch out for that.
Yeah, some vegans do just eat carbs!! Be careful. Avoid simple carbs and sugars, refined grains etc. Sprout some mung beans, the protein content increases 30% and the carb content decreases. You can eat them raw or stir-fry them lightly, or make a curry with them.

Avocados are a good for slowing down the absorption of carbohydrate, low glycemic index and high in fibre. Basically you should be eating unrefined grains, eg brown rice, legumes (prefably sprouted, lentils, mungs etc) nuts and seeds, and plenty of vegetables! Eat vegetables with every meal!Does the vegan diet really work?
It's not a weight loss diet plan, if you are looking to change your lifestyle and eat healthier for life than maybe it's a good idea. Sure you're going to drop some inches because you'll probably be cutting your saturated fat intake drastically but he second you start eating cheese and meat again you will start packing the fat on quickly. Also meals are not based on carbs. If you make this decision you better start researching nutritional needs especially if you work out that often you'll want to make sure you are eating enough protien.
No diet works. The only thing that really works in the long term is a life style change. Vegan is not a diet it is a way of living. Vegans don't believe in any kind of animal exploitation and live their lives to avoid that so no silk,no leather, It is not a tool to lose weight. Some gain weight and some lose weight. You need to do a lot more research about diet from real science. Carbs run your brain and your heart. They are bad how? Sounds like you have been listening to a lot of junk science and need to do some real research because nothing you say makes any sense.Does the vegan diet really work?
If your talking about for weight loss Ive been a vegetarian for 8 years and a vegan for 4 months....I lost 30 pounds since turning vegan! but I still had to watch what I ate. i dont count cards because I am a very active person and if I dont get carbs I dont function... and no, thats not all there is to eat. there are many MANY things to try and to eat on a vegan diet.

even though I am a vegan because I strongly feel pasionate about animal rights, I had been trying to lose some extra pounds for quite awhile... and its works great for weight loss!

if you are doing it for weight loss then do what I have been doing and you will literally shrink overnight...

first...buy multivitimins....if your going to eat low cal like I did, then you will need them on a vegan diet where you should be eating a lot more.

then find out how much protien you need a day...you divide you weight in pounds by 2.2, then multiply by 0.8...that number is how many grams of protien you need a day. protien is the most important nutrient and must be replenished every day. so make sure you get your protien!

then...find out how much you want to lose every week....3500 calories make a pound so I ate around 1500 a day.

the hard part! eat foods that are low in calories and high in protien to make sure you get enough protien with out exeeding your calorie limit! buy wheat germ, its tastes like bread crumbs and has 50 calories and 4 grams of protien in 2 tbs.

I also exersized every other day...

I lost around 3 pounds a week took off every few weeks when I felt I needed a break, I plan on losing 30 more pounds and making to my goal weight of 140! =) Good luck!
To be honest most diets work, but you need the proper exercise. Most diets consist of lowering the amount of food you take and eating more filling foods with good nutritional value. Even the pills on TV while they may not be healthy work but if you notice at the bottom it will say something to the effect of " results may vary blah blah but will lose through diet and exercise". A lot of people think that dieting doesn't work because they don't exercise properly.
If you are doing this to lose weight, it will fail in the long term like most diets - you'll shed some weight at first, then the rate of loss will slow down, as soon as you revert, wham, back go the pounds.

That's why vegans do it long term for their principles, and they check that it is balanced by including appropriate amounts of fat and protein.
It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. Diets mean to kill something off. That's negative in itself. Thus, it won't last, b/c nothing negative or considered a chore lasts. It's not about what not to eat, it's about what to eat.
just eat a full healthy balanced diet. follow the food guide pyramid like tought in kindargarden and get active. Aerobic mixed with strength training mixed with a well balanced diet will get better results than any fad diet. just word hard
Work for what?

It's not a "fad" diet, hun. It's a lifestyle choice.
if fasting works then vegan does work and even better because you don't mix the kind of food you eat.
Yes it does.

btw I know because my mum went on one of those and lost 40 lbs in 6 months. she drank lots of water too.
