I I know we have been taught the old non-fat rule for the last few years, but we really do need it to get that full feeling, especially women. Without certain fats, estrogen and other hormones like pregesterone have a hard time getting where they need to go, especially to skin cells to nourish the skin and keep it from getting dry. The trick is the right kind of fats. The answer is MUF monounsaturated fats. The good fats. High in calories, density and swarming to every cell that calls out to it, it works overtime so that you feel the effects of your yummy treat for a longer time than with grains or standard veggies or fruits. One of my fave can't miss is the good old avocado. Mashed with chopped tomato, purple or 1015 onion, a bit of fresh cilantro, perhaps some green chilis, this is one of nature's most awesome side dishes! Not only filling and good for the skin, but even good for the outside of the skin as one of the best moisturizers ever... if you have any left over, that is,
If you are in the mood for Mexican Food, you can try an Amy's Organic Enchilada Dinner from the frozen food section and after cooking, cover the top with avocado salad. You will be SO full. Eat slowly, set down your fork after every bite even for a second. It takes your stomach about 20 minutes to send it's messages to the brain that signals a feeling of fullness.
Another good one? A whole wheat organic bread or roll stuffed with vegan mayo or your favorite sandwich spread or dressing, avocado slices, Sheeze slices like their mozzarella maybe, thinly sliced purple onion, baby raw organic spinach leaves, organic tomato slices, organic spring mix, and some sliced portobello mushroom sauteed with onion and garlic and a bit of red wine with Earth Balance butter. A meal that eat's like a meal.
Breakfast? Cannot beat quinoa, very high protein, very low calorie. Add MUF by way of coconut milk - Silk brand makes an excellent one, stevia, and some fresh organic blueberries. On top sprinkle with a handful of walnut pieces.
Amy's also makes other really good frozen meals, I think all organic. Almost all are gluten free as well. Vegan. About the same price as other frozen meals. Morning Star Farms makes a soy version of McNuggets that kids at school like better than the real thing! And their version of bbq wings is wonderful, too, esp the spicy ones. All of their line is terrific.
My first experience with frozen vegetarian food was with Boca Burgers. The original, flame-broiled tasted as good to me as any burger I ever had..though I was pretty hungry that day. :)) All of the frozen meals contain good amounts of MUF, too. You just need to be careful of the sodium. Stay under 1200 per day and you will not have to contend with bags under your eyes on those days you'd rather not have them.
It's true about the beans and rice. Organic black beans and brown rice form the best amino acid chain outside of...well, anything. You don't have to go it plain, though. Add a couple of tablespoons of x-virgin cold expressed organic olive oil for some x-nice MUF, spices, tomatoes, make a soup, whatever suits your fancy. Lots of protein is good for a meal a day..we really don't need as much protein as we used to think, just don't forget the fat. For snacks, organic black olives and dry roasted, raw, or oven roasted almonds or walnuts are both good and keep that full feeling up. There are even almonds in the little 100 calorie paks now. Just forgo the salt and keep your skin looking young and vibrant.
Oops - during your period, a great one. Chocolate, of course. Grab a 70% minimum dark chocolate, low in sugar bar, with nuts even better if you have not had yours for the day. The best chocolate is 100% and you will think you have died and gone to chocolate heaven when you find that. I buy the cocao itself in 100% and make my own goodies, sometimes adding 1/2 cup and some stevia and pure organic vanilla to my whole grain biscuit recipe. Can't keep my teen son out of these, though! Good thing he's extra thin!
Lots of luck to you!How to stay full on a vegetarian/vegan diet?
Try more fiber? Whole grains and also vegetables and fruits take a while to digest so they keep you full for longer. Also try to stay away from processed carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, sweets/sugars, etc. Those will make you feel full for a little while but they're digested quickly and also your blood sugar goes up and then dips kind of drastically, which makes you feel hungrier. At least that is what happens to me, especially when I have my period for some reason.
Also make sure you're getting enough water. Your period can make you a little dehydrated, and it's very common/easy to mistake thirst for hunger and eat when you really should be drinking more.
Try snacking on fruits or vegetables throughout the day. Some of the health reasons to stay with a vegetarian diet is reduced chance of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and many more. Since animals contribute to over 50% of greenhouse gas emissions in the US, just think of the environmental impact you could have by not consuming animal products. Eat foods higher in fiber as well, that may help. How to stay full on a vegetarian/vegan diet?
When I'm on my period, the ONLY things I drink are water %26amp; chocolate soymilk. First, the chocolate makes me feel better (lol) and it fills me up when the cramps start to get bad. I also eat a lot of whole grain, on %26amp; off my period. That stuff makes you feel fuller longer, without that heavy feeling. Hope that helps! :)
Looks at pictures of dead and rotting baby animals every morning. That should turn you off of meat! How to stay full on a vegetarian/vegan diet?
Eat more whole grains. Have whole wheat bread, or brown rice with your meals. They help you feel fuller.
Just remember Kate Moss when she said "nothing feels better than skinny......"
