I recently started following a vegan diet , but why am i ALWAYS hungry?

i eat a lot of rice and fruit, but i don't like peanut butter much.I recently started following a vegan diet , but why am i ALWAYS hungry?
Well firstly I hope that you're following the vegan food pyramid http://www.veganfoodpyramid.com/

Secondly I am a vegan who is mostly raw and the reason is because it is easier for your body to be breaking down fruit and vegetables then meat and dairy because the latter are higher in animal protein and fats.

To make yourself feel full longer try to eat bread, avocado and brown rice/pasta as these will help a little bit but regardless you should be expecting to eat up to 7 meals a day.

ADD: I just thought I'd let you know what I eat in a typical day this might not work for you because I am trying to eat raw and I eat a lot of fiber which will shock your system if you're not used to it but I get regular blood tests and am in perfect health.

Today I've eaten 200 g spinach, 1 kg watermelon, 6 carrots, 2 oranges, 2 beetroot, a handful of parsley, 1/2 kg rock melon, an apple, a cucumber, 100g celery, half an avocado, and for dinner I'll have a sweet potato (yam), a potato, 250g of pumpkin, an onion, and a tomato. Plus lots of water, a "supergreen" supplement which I have with a juice in the morning ( 2 carrots, 2 oranges, 1 beetroot and i stick of celery went into my juice they don't count toward my daily total and this is the supplement I use http://www.vitalgreens.com/products/vita… ) I also take a vitamin B12 supplement once or twice a week which I recommend to you as well.I recently started following a vegan diet , but why am i ALWAYS hungry?
eat vegetables. and try vegan burgers.

look around for vegan breads(most contain whey or some reason honey!), i like friehoffers. i eat the wheat but i think all are vegan. just double check.

rice isn't realy that nutritious. brown rice is somewhat but its not the best, plus it'll make you constipated it you eat too much.

soy/tofu, beans and lentils, as well as broccoli will give you protein so you don't have to eat peanut butter.

vegan burgers do have a lot of protein as well. (not all veggie burgers are vegan so reaaadd!!)

i was hungry for about .. a week when i became vegan. probably because i was adjusting to the change and still trying to find foods. but after that.. i'm like never hungry anymore. i typically eat through out the day because i know I should, but rarely am hungry.
You're hungry because you need more protein. When you become a vegan, you have to eat a lot of food in one day to supply all the nutrients you need compared to an omnivore. A sample day diet would be: Breakfast-oatmeal with soy milk and soy butter, fruit, vegan toast. Lunch-salad with loads of fruits and vegetables and tofu, pita bread. Dinner-Baked tofu seasoned how you like, with a baked potato, and broccoli. Dessert-apple crisp (granny smith apples, oatmeal, soy butter, and honey that is baked in a ramekin). Hope that helps.I recently started following a vegan diet , but why am i ALWAYS hungry?
You need to eat more than rice and fruit, that's why you're hungry. There are so many other things you can eat on a vegan diet. Look up some vegan Indian and vegan Thai recipes. Try hummus, and other bean and lentil dishes, oatmeal with rice or soy milk, cheese-less pizzas, cheese-less pasta dishes. Try eating more nuts likes almonds and cashews. They may be loaded with fat, but the fat they contain is healthy and the body doesn't absorb most of it due to the fiber. Eat more leafy greens - they are loaded with essential nutrients. Use olive oil and canola oil with your salads.

Make sure you are getting enough iron and zinc.
No big drama. It’s just your body adjusting.

It will soon settle down. It took about three weeks for me to stop feeling hungry.

Doesn’t sound like you have much variety in your diet!

Why don’t you buy a couple of Vegan cook books (cheaply at Amazon or eBay) or do some Google searches.

Those Skinny B**** books are pretty good.

And absolutely everybody is raving about “Veganomicon: The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook” by Isa Chandra Moskowitz %26amp; Terry Hope Romero.

Here is a good site:

Fruit smoothies are good fillers:

Blend whole fruit and/or vegetables (seeds, pips, stones, stalks removed) with a glass of pure water.

This morning at 8.30am I blended the following and it kept me filled me up until after midday:

250ml (1 cup) pure filtered water

3 (organic) ripe peaches (skin on)

1 (organic) apple (skin on)

1 (organic) orange

Blend together until smooth and drink.

Another good one is:

250ml (1 cup) pure filtered water

250g (organic) baby spinach leaves

2 (organic) bananas

Peeled small knob peeled ginger - optional

Blend together until smooth and drink.

I just started a Raw Vegan lifestyle. I have been on and off again Vegan. When I go off I am a vegetarian. I already notice a huge difference. When I eat mostly vegetarian, I tend to stick with many starchy items, also known as comfort foods. Also, what is your water content? Are you drinking the required amount of water for your body? I went from drinking almost two 2 liter bottles of Pepsi a day to water only after my morning cup of tea with splenda. I have never been more full and alert in all my life. I agree with many others, you are not eating enough. Do more web searches- you can find a plethora of information out there for your transition. Keep up the good fight and you will achieve the goal. Also, since you are going vegan be careful. Find what your reasons are for going vegan.

Is it because you want to better your health?

Animal Rights?

You can eat a lot of stuff out on the everyday shelf that has been PETA approved, but most of those items will make you FAT!!! So, really be mindful of what you get.

Veggies are a wonderful thing, and since you are not a rawist or venturing there yet... The world is your "oyster" if you will. The only thing you need is to research recipes and then go from there and create your own.
Rice and fruit are nice, but like others I would suggest a larger variety of foods. More to the point, you don't seem to have much fat intake on what you said you're eating. Nuts and avocado would help with that. You need a healthy amount of fat, and fat tends to help you feel full. Just a suggestion I didn't see mentioned yet.

Add: Well, I apparently annoyed someone, so here's some resources. To properly absorb nutrients you NEED a healthy amount of fat. I mean healthy sources, healthy amounts, but you NEED fat. This is a nutrient that your body needs as much as calcium or anything else.

"If you don't consume fat at all, then your body thinks you're starving. Your body will try to defend itself and store as much fat as possible and thus you don't lose weight." Link 1

"In the study, people who consumed salads with fat-free salad dressing absorbed far less of the helpful phytonutrients and vitamins from spinach, lettuce, tomatoes and carrots than those who consumed their salads with a salad dressing containing fat....

"It doesn't take much fat, by the way, to aid the absorption of these important vitamins and nutrients. Eating just 5 or 10 nuts, or one-fourth of an avocado, provides plenty of dietary fat for transporting these nutrients and aiding their absorption." Link 2

The third link might be most helpful to you. It's 5 appetite control foods, advice for controlling hunger. One of the things it says to avoid specifically are refined carbs, like white rice.
According to what I've heard from a lot of vegans, the key is to eat a lot of smaller meals throughout the day. Sure, you need to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but you should also bring lots of smaller snacks around with you in case you get hungry.

Also, there's soo much more to life than just rice --you should buy yourself a vegan cook book and see what you can make for yourself that you would enjoy eating.
You may not be getting enough protein - Tofu, soya 'milk'/'yogurt', nuts, tahini(sesame seed butter), cashew nut butter.

Have you tried protein shakes? The vegan ones from pea or soya protein?

How about banana's and also the alternative quinoa(keen-wah) to rice. (an ancient "grain" filled with protein and calcium, similar texture to cous cous). This can be bought at most health stores.

Make sure you are eating wholemeal rice, have you tried making your food? Kidney bean and chickpea burgers(PROTEIN...)

I really hope you try out what I've listed, you will be well on your way to full missy.

good luck
You are hungry because YOU ARE NOT EATING ANYTHING! Being Vegan is about more than just rice and fruit. There are plenty of options out there. You have to buy the right food. Here is a website with recipes. Make some. Do not starve yourself. Do research. Find foods that you like and that you can eat.

http://www.chooseveg.com/vegan-recipes.a…
Your body is still craving something. You can probably get it in your vegan diet. Try green smoothies. They are 40%greens and 60% fruit and water. If you try having a couple glasses a day, I bet your food cravings go away. It has worked for everyone I know who's tried it so far!
Look at which foods used to fill you up best while you were a vegetarian. Were they foods high in starch, sugar, fibre, fat or protein? Whichever they were, find the vegan equivalents and try to incorporate more of those into your diet.
you might want to start off as a vegetarian and remove certain items gradually in order to become a vegan.

I seem more hungry but at Ieast, I am never bloated anymore.
any diet will make you want more food, I just eat more fruit and try spinach leaves with ranch. Also try these Amazing Smoothies
Meat has a much higher calorie density then the aforementioned foods. Try eating warmer foods, also tofu, and beans.
Try bread with jam.....or butter

You can dip crackers into a vegy cream and its pretty good.
eat meat
when you re used to eating one way and then you just immediately change that, your body reacts in a negative way showing certain signs, such as hunger.

what you can do is eat normally fo a weak, and then remove two foods from your options every 3 days.

that way it is gradual and much more healthy
......where's your protein? ..........your body is gonna start eating any protein it can get.. like.. from your body.. it's HUNGRY.. feed it!

rice and fruit? what, did you see a cow being butchered? man up.

there's a reason why there are animals on this earth.. lol to eat.. sparingly..
well if you want to be a veegan than you should get used to being hungry. that's what happens when the only things you can eat are veggies and carbs.
just guess...

its because your body is used to getting all the stuff that you are now denying it. don't be a vegan, its bad for your health.
cuz you recently started a vegan diet
cause u need meet ..... it was put on this earth... for us READ THE BIBLE
