Say the child is 1 yr old.Is a vegan diet healthy for small children?
The answerer above me is right. Don't give them a VEGAN diet, try something like lots of organic/natural foods, fruits, veggies, etc. He/she is definitely going to need milk, and a bit of meat. He/she needs B-12 and other vitamins more then anyone due to the young age too, and I'm sure they won't swallow a pill.Is a vegan diet healthy for small children?
Not really unless you can substitute a lot of high quality nuts, grains, pulses to make up for the lack of calcium. Also, you really need to give infants oily fish regularly as it is impossible to get long chain fatty molecules from anything else other than breast milk.
So, in short no, they need to eat a wide range of healthy unprocessed foods to give their brain, bone and tissue development all the support it needs.
Tofu can help with the calcium, but overall, hair, nails and teeth can suffer on this diet and that just whats visible. Is a vegan diet healthy for small children?
NO!
children need to grow. growing requires FAT and CALORIES and lots of them.
save the veganism for later in life (like when the child can make the choice for themselves)
stick to "a normal omnivore diet with healthy vegan INFLUENCES" teach them to like tofu... but also let them eat meat and cheese. Is a vegan diet healthy for small children?
Sorry but that's torture..
at least let the child have a say when it grows up!
Let your kid eat chicken dammit.
