i've been a vegan for 4 days. i love it so far and i intend on making this long-term but i don' t want to lose weight necessarily. i work out everyday and i like the way my body looks, i don't want to lose muscle! please help! any advice is good advice. thanks so much.Is there a way for me to stay on my vegan diet but maintain and also build upon muscle?
As is the case with an omnivorous diet, you can maintain a healthy physique with proper intake and you can do the converse without proper intake. Make sure you eat from a variety of protein sources, including beans, seeds and grains. That means a lot of bread and pasta for grains, chick peas for beans and pumpkin seeds for seeds. Obviously things like a peanut butter sandwich won't hurt.
I also work out daily and I eat a can of chick peas prior to my workout and a Clif Builder Bar (completely vegan) immediately afterward. I have been vegan since I was 14 and am now 21, gaining a significant amount of muscle in the process. Obviously this mandates diversifying your workout routine for muscle confusion as well but do it right and everything will work out perfectly.
I bench press 265 pounds and curl 55 pounds. We are talking complete sets with reps of 10. I am still constantly progressing at a surprisingly rapid rate.
We are in good company; Mac Danzig (UFC) and Mike Mahler are both vegan. Also check out veganbodybuilding.com to see the results a vegan diet can get you.Is there a way for me to stay on my vegan diet but maintain and also build upon muscle?
It's a myth that vegetables don't have protein. Eat a variety of vegetables plus plenty of whole grains, brown rice, lentils, and nuts and you will get plenty of protein to maintain/build muscle. There are famous vegan bodybuilders and weight lifting champions. Carl Lewis the track star is a vegan. If those world class athletes can do it so can you.
