How healthy is a vegan diet for a 13 year-old boy?

My son is determined to go vegan, but I have serious doubts as to whether it provides enough nutrients for a growing teen. How healthy is a vegan diet for a 13 year-old boy?
well as long as he gets the right proteins, like soy protein and various other beans he should do fine. How healthy is a vegan diet for a 13 year-old boy?
Why I think it is very healthy as long as it is what he want to do. Remember it lots of veggies and fruit. Good bye and Good luck
Vegan diets are not balanced. They are a fad among tens because they think it makes them thin. It does so by starving the body. A proper vegetarian diet (with certain foods eaten in conjunction with other foods to provide proper amino acids/protein) can be healthy but most kids do not understand how to do this. How healthy is a vegan diet for a 13 year-old boy?
depends on how seriously he is devoted. if he gets calcium from leafy greens and maybe vitamins pills i guess it would be ok. though he still needs healthy fats and protein which can be found in nuts and beans. if he just wants to eliminate meat products he can get calcium and protein from dairy produce. it all really depends
that is fantastic. im not vegan but my twelve year old brother is extremely obese because all he ever eats is junk. think about it, green leafy vegetables, fresh fruit. dont listen to anyone on this site. if your son is serious take him to a nutritionist or two (just to make sure one isnt biased)How healthy is a vegan diet for a 13 year-old boy?
he is still a growing developing boy, in my opinion, put him on an almost vegitarian diet where he can eat fish, and maybe some chicken. if he gets sick he wont grow good immune system, also if he wants to do highschool sports he wont hav enough muscle
If he wants to do it, let him do it. There are enough nutrients for a vegan diet, because there are alternative food choices. If you go to www.peta.com, they'll tell you all the stuff you need.

There are recipes on that site. From my own personal experience, I was a vegetarian, and there are ways to get all the protein you need.

Good Luck!
To be sure, that is not normal. A healthy 13 year old should be occupied by beating things or people with sticks, failing miserably to attract girls, and acquiring contraband of some kind. I'm being serious here. I wonder if his eating habits are abnormal already or if he isnt getting enough exercise.

Are you sure you aren't taking this one a little too seriously? Picture your son at arbys with his friends: "No, i dont want that delicious steaming pile of roast beef on a bun covered in tangy arbys sauce. I think i will have a baked potato because i'm weird and i like starving myself." I am suggesting he wont last a week.

Yeah, the kid will starve on a vegan diet and probably stunt his growth. Vegans will contend that soy and beans are high in protein, (theyre just barely adequate,) but only about half of their protein is bioavailable. 5 grams of egg protein is about like 12 grams of soy.

Soy has one of the highest rates of pesticides of any vegetable, and the beans are poison if not cooked. They dont become manna as soon as they are. Soy gives guys bloating and breasting. It doesn't seem to matter much for girls.

Would it be possible to encourage your son to eat healthy vegetables and lean meats? That would be the best solution for his health.

Is it possible that your son has just been misled by hippies or he is doing this for social attention? (Things must have changed since i went to school in that case.) If so do whatever the motherly equivalent of smacking him is.

Really, whole foods and vegetables is a great idea and it is good he is concerned about his health. But growing boys need protein.
