Vegetarian diet: Can it help me control my diabetes?

BTW: Make sure to talk this over with your doctor. Can you manage a vegetarian (ovo-lacto not vegan) diet with diabetes?
Yes, you can. Talk to a dietitian - it's not difficult.
I had Gestational Diabeties - as in pregnancy induced, it clears up once you give birth. I am not overweight and I was already a vegetarian.
My Dr. sent me to a dietitian who got me on a diet/exercise schedule. He was actually happy that I was veg because it meant that I read lables. In his (%26amp; my ob's) opinion, vegetarian are much more aware of what they put in their bodies and are able to make informed decisions about their health.
Good luck! Can you manage a vegetarian (ovo-lacto not vegan) diet with diabetes?
One of my closest friends is a vegan and a diabetic. I can't tell you exactly how she has done it,because I don't know everything about the disease, but I do know that she really watches what she eats. She told me that she almost never has to take her insulin because of her diet. When she became pregnant,a few years ago,her doctors were amazed at how healthy she was. They said that they have never, ever seen such a healthy pregnant diabetic. There's usually so many problems with diabetics,in general, and being a pregnant diabetic is really scary, but she was over-the-top healthy, they said. They couldn't believe that she could be so healthy and also be a vegan.
So,what I'm saying is,any healthy diet mixed with diabetes can be done. You just have to watch what you do,pay close attention and do your research. I want my friend to put up a blog or something about her diet so other diabetics can learn how to take good care of themselves. Can you manage a vegetarian (ovo-lacto not vegan) diet with diabetes?
Like you I was vegetarian (vegan actually) when diagnosed with diabetes - though I'm much older than you and mine is type 2.
I manage my blood glucose levels very well on a vegan diet. As long as you follow any dietary guidelines you've been given by your doctor, there's no reason why you shouldn't continue to follow a vegetarian diet.
