Is there any truth to that or is it a myth? The vegan people I've seen are not overweight which is good but they look somewhat frail.Does a vegan diet hurt your ability to build muscle and play sports?
It is a myth. You can be an obese or skinny vegan, you can be sickly and frail if you like. There is plenty of vegan junk, and you can overeat anything. You can also be super healthy as a vegan. You have to eat correctly no matter what your diet. That means managing your portions, and getting a balance and variety of nutrients. You need protein, carb, fat, fiber, water, vitamins, minerals, etc...and avoid the processed crap with anti-nutrients that do not help your health.
Building muscle and being a healthy athlete is all about proteins which are found in many many foods. You need complete proteins, which are indeed found in a single portion of meat, but you can also pair plant proteins to be a proper meat substitute. The thing about pairing plant proteins instead of eating animal products is that you don't get a lot of excess fat, cholesterol, etc.
Ellen DeGeneres and Mike Tyson are both vegan and they are both in excellent shape. In fact, when I went after supporting information, I found a huge list of vegan celebrities you can look up and see if they look sickly to you and then make up your own mind. Check out Michael Franti. He looks like a dang hippie super hero...he has an amazing body.

This is also part of a larger website that can help you learn about how to eat correctly without animal products.Does a vegan diet hurt your ability to build muscle and play sports?
au contraire, build muscle and playing sports is alot easier on a vegan diet. alot healthier too. if you work your body more than "normally", it'll be harder if you consume animal-products. it'll slow you down and ruin the nutrients benefically for body building and energy to play sports.

what's up with the protein and meat link? meat is NOT the best source for protein... OR calories. neither is any other animal product.
the biggest myth ever. My aunt's ex boyfriend was built like a bodybuilder and he was vegan. I am a vegan teenager and I am very fit and healthy. I am a figure skater and a runner, and being vegan has had no negative impact. Just make sure that you are still a healthy vegan though. Fake meats have tons of protein, so I reccomend that.Does a vegan diet hurt your ability to build muscle and play sports?
not if you consume a proper amount of fats and protein... and also you should get your blood tested for vitamin deficiencies such as B12 and iron. You just need to make sure you are taking vitamins and getting the proper amount of nutrients.
lol its a myth. google "vegan bodybuilders" or "vegan pro athletes".Does a vegan diet hurt your ability to build muscle and play sports?
definitely not! As long as you get enough protein( beans, and nuts are a great source) and fat you will be perfectly healthy. This is true of all people, regardless of their chosen lifestyle.
No its not, just have some proper diet, and be sure that you eat something you can get proper supplement.
you can do it, but you need to eat lots of good sources of protien, like lentils
the answer is absolutely yes for any guy, a girl might be able to get by...but you need a lot of calories to preform well in sports...especially from protein. It would put you at a huge disadvantage not to eat meat, milk, eggs, cheese while in a training or performance regiment. There is no question that it will make it harder to build muscle on a vegan diet. Just going to have to eat a lot of peanuts.
