I've been vegan for a while, but lately have been wonderign fi I made the right choice health wise.
I did it for the animals and our environment. Is a Vegan Diet (No meat, eggs, or dairy product consumption) truly a healthy diet? Can it be healthy for me?
I also did it for the animals after I viewed "Meet Your Meat," a PETA video I got at a Morrissey concert in Atlanta (link below). But veganism also helps the enviroment; the raising of cattle is raping the land of water and nutrients. That is why part of the world is experiencing severe drought and famine, while people in America suffer obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
Also, Time magazine ran an article about ways to help reduce Global Warming, and #22 was "Skip the Steak (see link below)." The meat industry generates roughly 18% of the world's greenhouse-gas emmissions, even more than transportation. Time magazine said meat production is bound to double between 2001 and 2050, and a 16 oz. T-Bone steak is like a Hummer on a plate because of all of the nitrous oxide and methane being released into the atmosphere due to the increasing meat production. If you switch to vegetarianism, you can shrink your carbon footprint by 1.5 tons of carbon a year.
A vegan diet is the only diet that can reduce heart disease and diabetes. Dr. Dean Ornish had several patients with severe heart disease successfully improve their conditions by only switching their diets to veganism. Being a vegan can cause you to become unhealthy if you choose to just eat french fries and Tofutti ice cream; with a few sensible choices, like avoiding too much sugar, enriched foods, and corn syrup, you can live a very healthy and long life.
So being a vegan not only helps the animals, it also helps improve the planet and helps improve your own health and well-being.Is a Vegan Diet (No meat, eggs, or dairy product consumption) truly a healthy diet? Can it be healthy for me?
Yes. but we need also some meet once in a while.
Veg diet is good for your health . I got shocked when they say non veg culd bring cancerIs a Vegan Diet (No meat, eggs, or dairy product consumption) truly a healthy diet? Can it be healthy for me?
Eat dairy and eggs at least, you have to get vitamins!!!!!!
That is one of the best reasons. I think it is healthier. It causes one to pay more attention to what one is eating. Is a Vegan Diet (No meat, eggs, or dairy product consumption) truly a healthy diet? Can it be healthy for me?
It all depends on how your body reacts to it. Personally being strictly began is not good in my books. Being careful of what you eat is fine. Like cows for instance. they were bred for eating not wild. and chickens not wild bred for eating.
Moose on the other hand is a wild animal and should not be killed for food. Self defense yes and then eaten but not just to go for food. I do not believe in hunting in today's day and age. To many innocent animals but cows and chickens and pigs are a different story. How they die is a big thing to. Is it done humanly or not? That's why when I but my meat I buy what says kosher on it because i know that the animal was organically fed and humanly killed for as little pain as possible. Yes it is a bit more expensive but I can live with myself now.
“It is the position of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada that appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.”
“Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals. Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer.“
Humans are supposed to eat everything from lettuce to pork. Your body needs protein that only meat contains. So, don't fool yourself by eating legumes and tofu and hoping that your body gets all the needed sources of protein. And how do you make up your calcium intake if you don't drink milk or yogurt? I would never go for pills and tablets and nutrition supplements. In the end, you will certainly do whatever you think is right, but you asked and I answered.
Cheers!
You can get all the the proper nutrition from a completely vegan diet, yes. You just have to do a little research into your nutritional needs, and which fruits/veggies/grains/legumes etc contain that nutrition, so you can eat a balanced diet.
As for B-12 (The ONLY nutrient that strict vegans can sometimes lack.) A good source is Brewer's Yeast (aKA Nutritional Yeast Flakes) They're full of B-12, and taste kinda cheesey. Learn to love them on air-popped popcorn, or in your scrambled tofu. If you're a marmite/vegemite/Vegex kinda person, that also gives you enough B-12.
Veganism is good for your health, if you know what you're doing. Animal products today are so full of disease that it's pretty much unsafe to eat meat, drink milk, eat eggs...
If you did it for the animals, you are an absolute idiot. They will still have cows and pigs and chickens slaughtered and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. People are OMNIFVORES, we eat MEAT and Plants.
If you want to be a Vegan, it should be for YOURSELF. That's a choice you can make. Us meat-eaters don't tell you what to eat so you don't tell us. Also, good luck on your new diet - be careful to make sure you get all the iron and protein and nutrients you need or you'll end up looking like Alicia Silverstone all anemic and acne ridden and pale. Gross.
