Or like food doesn't fill you up the same anymore? I became an organic vegan after eating meat all my life. Now I will eat until I am full but no matter how much I ate, an hour later I'm hungry again. My friend suggested that it was because my body is used to the heavy meat feeling so i was wondering if anyone else has had this experience.Does anyone who went from eating meat to a vegetarian or vegan diet feel hungry?
No, it is not what you eat but how much (in calories). You are probably eating vegetables only, and they are law calories, so you are soon hungry again!
Try to add some calories to your dishes, to fill yourself: baked potatoes, nuts (very nourishing), beans, lentils, bread and so on. Then you won't feel hungry!
If you go the way you do it now, you will soon stop it, because it is unnatural to be hungry all the time.Does anyone who went from eating meat to a vegetarian or vegan diet feel hungry?
You're probably eating too many vegetables and not getting enough calories. You should eat more high-fat, calorie dense foods like beans, peanut butter is really good for this too. Soy meats, cheese and eggs if you still eat dairy.
It's not just fullness in your stomach that creates a 'fuul' feeling. you need proper nutrition as wellDoes anyone who went from eating meat to a vegetarian or vegan diet feel hungry?
I usually don't feel hungry, but vegan meals are much harder to prepare than a steak too. I would say that you should check out some specialty vegan cook books, because there are certain foods that provide better nutritional foundation than others. Like tofu, soy, tahini, beans, etc. You also might want to take vitamins to supplement your diet. I don't think meat is that healthy for you, but veggies alone can be disastrous if you don't have the proper recipes or experience to eat right. I also eat often because I work out so I eat smaller portions but more often so they burn off quicker.
I think anytime you completely change your diet it takes time to readjust to and find your new meal plans. This could take a lifetime. Stick with the basics and avoid gimmick vegan snacks just eat your veggies, beans, healthy carbs. I just read labels very carefully and avoid fatty foods.
If you eat right and exercise it won't matter if you are hungry too because you can't gain weight eating vegetables. You would have to eat junk food or sodas to gain weight cause vegetables won't unless they are loaded with sugar and fat.Does anyone who went from eating meat to a vegetarian or vegan diet feel hungry?
I'm not a vegetarian but your problem may be from not getting enough protein. Meat has a lot of protein in it but a vegetarian diet is hard to get protein in. So try taking in more protein at your meals and see if this helps.
Hi!
I went vegetarian at the age of 12 after eating meat as a child (southern cooking lives by it) and I really didn't feel any hungrier than I usually did when I made the switch. Then, when I was 15, I converted to raw veganism. This time, my hunger WAS increased.
Of course, I've been suffering from eating disorders for the last 7 years, but despite this fact, I do think that when you converted, it was that lack of the foods you were used to playing against you. Especially if you made the jump from omnivore to vegan without a period of vegetarianism in-between (a lot of people say vegetarianism is a stepping stone into veganism, to wean them off of animal products one step at a time).
How long have you been a vegan now? It might get better over time as you adjust to your new diet.
Hope this has helped,
Hyl
