The first answerer is wrong. A vegan diet is totally safe as long as you are getting adequate amounts of protein and you take a prenatal vitamin and a calcium supplement. I'm 25 weeks pregnant and I have a mostly vegan diet (I'm not strict by any means) and me and my growing son are perfectly normal and healthy. I'm sure you know to eat tons of beans, lentils, and tofu for protein. I'm a firm believer that our bodies just weren't meant to have red meat and dairy. Maybe. That's really a question for your doctor though. Every body is different and so is every pregnancy. It seems to me that going non-vegan could stress out your body and that isn't good for the baby.

Sadly, a vegan diet isn't safe for a baby. Babies need to eat meat to get the most nutrients and proteins possible that a vegan diet couldn't supply.
