You just need to be creative and do alot of research. I am also allergic to soy, as well as wheat, corn, commercial dairy, and a host of other things, but I still manage to maintain a healthy veg diet. I do alot of ethnic cooking, with recipes from countries that don't rely on wheat, soy and corn. It is a challenge, to be sure, but my diet is actually more interesting now than it ever has been. Join some yahoo allergy groups for recipes and ideas. Keep in mind, too, that allergies can get very serious VERY quickly-what might be a mild reaction this time, can be very serious the next time you are exposed to that allergen. The body reaches a point where it goes beyond just warning you with mild reactions, to serious things such as anaphalactic shock, so do your best to avoid soy in all forms, including non food sources (soy is the base for most ink, such as newspaper ink, and is also common in clothing dyes, toothpaste, shampooos, vitamins, etc) It would serve you well to really educate yourself about it. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way........
With me, the throat swelling up tends to give me a sore throat the next few days. And with any allergic reaction, it will get worse and worse the more you're exposed to it. So avoid it.
There are some great suggestions on here. If you can eat beans, nuts, and fungi (mushrooms) there are protein alternatives you can have without a problem. There's even an expensive one made from wheat germ. :) But be aware, according to allergy experts, if you're allergic to one thing like soy you are probably allergic to other things. Nuts especially seem to go hand in hand.
You might also find that you can eat more processed soy, fermented soy, and soy-oil. Experiment CAREFULLY and see what your limitations are. Mine goes across the board, all soy, but many people can tolerate one form or soy over another. How will I have a varied healthy vegan diet if I'm allergic to soy?
This question really threw me for a loop, let me tell you. I suppose the reason is because you think you have to include soy, a single source, to have a VARIED diet. Think about that for a second: you believe that being allergic to ONE thing will somehow prohibit you from enjoying VARIETY.
A varied, healthy vegan diet does not begin or end with soy. You're probably looking at all the replacements, like soy-based meat, soy milk, soy-based cheese, and tofu, right? Yeah, that's what I thought. All that stuff is processed, pre-packaged junk food, just like any other processed, pre-packaged junk food that includes meat/cheese/eggs. Just because it's vegan doesn't automatically make it healthy.
A varied, healthy vegan diet means you're eating a variety of veggies, a variety of fruits, a variety of grains, a variety of legumes, and a variety of nuts. Not soy. Not soy patties. Not soy ice cream. Not soy milk. Actual, wholesome, natural food. You'll also find that it's MUCH cheaper to do it this way.
There are a lot of alternative meat and dairy products. Seitan in fact not only taste more like meat but it actually has almost 4 x's the amount of protein in it and rice and hemp dairy products have more nutrition than soy dairy products. How will I have a varied healthy vegan diet if I'm allergic to soy?
You don't need soy on a vegan diet. Consume fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. Drink rice milk instead of soy milk and eat black bean burgers instead of soy burgers. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit.
I live of fruit, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds.
I have eaten some form of soy 4 times in three months.
It isn't for me and I don't want that in my body. Fruit and vegetables is enough for me.
you don't need to eat soy to have a healthy diet.
how about fresh fruits and veggies, eh?
protein in very dense in fruits and veggies.. you don't need supplements or soy products to obtain protein.
instead of soymilk there is almond or hempmilk for the b12.

I don't particularly like things with soy. Seitan %26amp; hemp burgers. Almond %26amp; rice milk.
