i mean if i start one, i know some vitamins are not found in a vegan diet. so i was just wondering what vitamin supplements ill need to take to get all the vitamins ill be missing out on??What vitamins will i miss out on if i start a vegan diet?
if you eat varied types of uncooked, unprocessed(preferably organic/locally grown if possible) fruits, some veggies and a small amount of nuts/seeds you'll get everything you need except b12 which i recommend supplementing as naturally we'd probably get it using unhygienic methods(hint: b12 comes from bacteria).
I'd recommend these - http://www.ihealthtree.com/vegan-subling鈥?/a>
Also don't forget to drink plenty of water and get plenty of exercise(I'd recommend simply walking or running for 30 minutes-an hour each day).
Edit: If you're worried about calcium - http://debbietookrawforlife.blogspot.com鈥?/a>
This site is great for answering many questions about raw foodism and veganism, and the link i gave you deals with questions about calcium(hint: you'll get plenty of calcium on a vegan diet if you eat the right foods). What vitamins will i miss out on if i start a vegan diet?
Do you want just vitamins or minerals as well?
Vitamins:
Part of the B complex. Some Vitamin B's are usually synchronized with iron, so if there's little iron in the diet, chances are there's a B deficiency as well.
Vitamin D. Vitamin D is found in dairy products and the sun. While you can spend time in the sun for 15 minutes and get your daily Vitamin D recommendation, this isn't always possible.
Minerals:
Iron. While there are other ways to get iron, most people don't consume it. You might especially be in deficiency if you are a female because we lose iron during our menstrual cycle.
Calcium. This is also found in dairy products and usually our main source of calcium. Women also need more calcium because our bones start deteriorating at an early age and we are more prone to osteoporosis, earlier in life too.
Macronutrients:
Protein/some essential amino acids. While mixing different sources of protein like seeds and nuts can give us all 20 essential amino acids, some essential (meaning our body can't make them) proteins are only found in animal products like beef and eggs.
Fat. While fat is normally known as a bad thing, it is a good source of energy, if you were planning on exercising. While good fats are found in vegetable oils (which are also a good source of Vitamin E), you can still get some fat out from animal products.
As a nutrition major, obviously I'm going to suggest you shouldn't cut out any food groups but you're probably going to follow the vegan diet anyway. But I'm going to highly recommend you take Calcium and Iron supplements. Those in my opinion are the most important. Just make sure you increase your (good) fat intake and protein intake. You're going to need it for energy. Carbohydrates, protein, and fat are sources of energy. When you're cutting out 2 of those groups, you might have less energy. What vitamins will i miss out on if i start a vegan diet?
I would just go ahead and take a multi-vitamin supplement. That's what all people should be doing anyway, no matter their diets.
