i am vegan and i dont believe it is healthier. What i do believe is that if you were worrying about health then you should only eat non vegan products in moderation. something like 1 small stake a week is enough meat. The current amount of meat that we eat has negative health consequenses. i think the same thing goes for other products.

Well because some people have the belief that eating fresh organic foods will help them lead a normal healthy life. This is true organic foods do tend to make people healthier.I'm not saying an all vegan diet is the best way to go. A vegan diet is mostly for people that believe killing of animals is wrong.So is it healthy yes but eating meat could be healthy as well. I think there can be and should be a balance of being a carnivore and herbivore. Not necessarily. A vegan diet can be very healthy, as can a vegetarian diet and a diet that includes meat. All three can be very unhealthy too, depending on what is eaten.
A sensible person realises this and doesn't waste time trying to prove that a particular dietary choice is unhealthy, or taunting people who make choices that are different from their own.

the thing about this is portion sizes. if someone eats meat in small portions a few times a week then it is not less healthy than vegetarianism

To say something is 'healthier' you have to be comparing it to something else. Is it healthier then the standard American diet? Certainly, but then most things are. Can an omnivore or vegetarian diet be just as healthy? Yes. The key is in understanding nutrition and knowing what you're doing, something most people don't. Any serious vegan, however, has studied nutiriton and understands it's not food that matters, but nutrients.
It's healthier to reduce the negative foods in your diet, and increase the nutrients, and a vegan diet is a good way to do that. We don't need cholesterol (out body makes enough on its own) We don't need saturated fat. And we certainly don't need the hormones, antibiotics, arsenic and other chemicals in meat. Or the bacteria that over 60% of chickens are infected with.
What we need is nutrients, all of which are available from a vegan diet. Many of which are missing from an average omnivore diet. I find it amusing when people point at veg*ns and say 'how do you get X, Y, or Z) when there are so many things Americans are lacking in their diet. Most Americans eat too much protein, leading to kidney disease, osteoperosis, dehydration and other problems. At the same time they don't eat enough fruits, vegetables or whole grains, which is why most people are deficient in Magnesium, Vitamin C, A, K, E, folic acid, fiber and more.
Eliminating meat from the diet is shown to lower the risk of heart disease (the number one killer in the US) diabetes type 2, high cholesterol, stroke, and some forms of cancer.
Of course you're probably going to bring up the vegan baby that died of malnutrition. And I can bring up infants who died of malnutrition on a omnivore diet. And children dying of heart disease and diabetes.
Well there's definitely less options as far as bad food choices go鈥 know my sister has lost a lot of weight since going vegetarian because she's also lactose intolerant and now has a very strict diet鈥?br>
there's nothing wrong with being vegan, just as long as you do it right.
i personally believe that it is healthier. meat has saturated fat, has chemicals and antibiotics that the animals, particularly chickens are fed to make them grow quicker. it clogs arteries, and contributes to heart disease. you are less likely to get heart disease and cancer if you are vegan. soy products are more nutritious then dairy and i have lost weight on a vegan diet, whereas i put on weight when i was not vegan!
when i became a vegetarian i increase the variety of foods i ate. i used to eat a lot of meat ( trust me) but when i stopped i had to find things to substitute for it. many people today eat way beyond their healthy range in meat and don't eat enough fruits and veggies and honestly, i wouldn't be doing it if it was actually really bad for my health.
Why is it that vegetarians/vegans always think there's no saturated fat in the plant kingdom? I've noticed this response is quite common. It's also completely wrong. Beer and potato chips are vegan but I wouldn't want to live off them. Well... not anymore. ;)
I'm vegan and eat a much more varied diet than any of my meat eating friends.
Try to bear in mind that your average western omnivore is deficient in seven vitamins or minerals, whereas your average vegan is deficient in two. Meat and dairy are directly linked to a large range of illnesses including various forms of cancer, stroke, diabetes, heart disease, liver disease... I could go on and on and on...
So, yes, I do REALLY think that a vegan diet is healthier; and my diet has plenty of variety :)
Reduced the variety? When have you had raw fajitas? Just because we can't eat at every restaurant doesn't mean we lack variety, because I've noticed the exact opposite.
Yes, I really know that a vegan diet is healthier. Who says you reduce the variety of foods? Since cutting out meat from my diet 8 years ago I have drastically INCREASED the variety of foods in my diet. I'm a heck of a lot healthier than I was 8 years ago, btw.
Since becoming vegan a little over a year ago I actually eat much more variety of things than I ever did before. I never eat fast food anymore and hardly consume any saturated fats.
I no longer have any digestive or acne problems. I used to wake up multiple times every night and be a really light sleeper but now I sleep through my alarm all the time. I also have not had any problems with depression which I sometimes struggle with a few times per year. Yes I believe it's all because I changed my diet.
How can a diet full of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and legumes be bad for you?!?!?!?
Yup. I'm in perfect health, as are my vegan husband and vegan children- our doctor is thrilled with our health. The GP before her was actually the one who told my husband and I about the health benefits of a plant-based diet.
As for "reducing the variety of foods in your diet",
the same can be said of a person who quits Cheetos and Coke.
Quite the contrary, until I became vegan, I'd never eaten so many different varieties of foods and dishes.

i'm talking from personnel experience so trust me i used to be vegan at that time i had read so many "evidence" about the health benefits of a vegan diet(almost no disease, lot of energy , good for animals" i read so many theories about the vegan diet i almost became an expert i thought i would be healtier,happier etc. 6 months later after starting the vegan diet : went from muscular to as skinny as a toothpick (looked like i was about to die according to my parents) , no energy whatsoever, no sex drive, very pale skin, you could see the bones in my face, grumpy , always hungry no matter how much i ate, etc. food gurus might tell you that the vegan diet has all you need but strong evidence show that you lack: protein, calcium, vitamin a, d, and fat soluble vitamins, iron(a lot) , magnesium , essential fatty acids (only in fish omega 3 and 6 , enzymes to help with all chemical reactions in the body and many other things. many people have had serious problems with this diet i'm a guy but girls have misscarriages, their period stops, and other things (already mentioned above) i know a lot of things about nutrition and now my health is very good , i'm muscular(i have to i play basketball), always have energy , never tired , no headaches, physical ailment nothing. secret. i aonly eat natural food : a lot of meat (yes nothing satisfies your hunger better than animal food fish, poultry, chicken and it's low in calory so it helps you lose weight tremendously while cutting down on carbs wich make you gain weight ), lot of fruits, 4 cups of green tean every day, lot of water, basically an omnivorous diet but no junk food ,no sodas,no biscuits just natural foods . tribes in africa eat that way and have no diseases at all . so forget about those vegan know it alls anf follow my advice if you're fat you'll become normal ,too skinny you'll become normal as well with this diet you'll basically reach your ideal health and bodyweight.
