Can a Vegan Diet help with Depression?

I've suffered with depression most my life and no combination of pills has ever really alleviated my depression. I've always wanted to become vegan for health and ethical reasons and have decided to take the jump. Has anyone noticed an increased mood or more balanced hormones (less pms) from a vegan diet? Can a Vegan Diet help with Depression?
Since it's something you wanted to do for ethical reasons, it will certainly make a difference. I didn't go vegan for ethical reasons but even I felt much better morally after I made the switch.

As you know that food does affect mood, I probably don't have to tell you that your vegan diet should consist of actual foods, not meat replacements, which are just heavily processed junk. The beneficial enzymes that are killed during cooking can also help, so ensure you take in raw veggies/nuts/fruits whenever you can. Trust me, there's a huge difference! Can a Vegan Diet help with Depression?
There is no scientific proof that food does anything to ones mood. Depression is the when the chemical dopamine is not working correctly. There is no relationship between dopamine and the food that you eat. Sorry, but it is all your state of mind about the vegan diet.
give it a try! what do you have to lose? i would think it would be good for you without all those hormones and antibiotics they put in meat and dairy. also, i've heard that eating things with hot peppers in it and eating dark chocolate can release endorphins and make you feel less depressed. exercise is another important thing in fighting depression. Can a Vegan Diet help with Depression?
Of course eating healthy vegan meals makes your head feel clear and you feel great like especialy Raw foods... Try making a green smoothie when you wake up and munch on some Raw almonds as snacks and drink plenty of water!
All anyone can tell you is their own experience.

I have suffered badly from depression, and I'm vegan. I doubt very much that had I not been vegan those bouts of severe depression would have been more severe or less severe.

There are those users of this forum who will assure you that being vegan will cure, reverse, prevent or treat any condition, from depression, through diabetes to cancer.

Without exception, they are people who have had no personal experience of the conditions.

Try it, after all it's something you want to do anyway. It can't hurt, but don't rely on it helping. Can a Vegan Diet help with Depression?
If you have "always wanted" to be vegan, then it may help. Anything that makes you feel good about yourself will help with depression.
