I am a vegan and am concerned about B-12 and other minerals I can't get from veggies.
I know about vitamins, supplements, etc. I just want to know if it's safe.Is it safe to breastfeed while maintaining a vegan diet?
I am a nurse and a vegetarian. I don't have any children yet myself so I can't speak based on my own experience. But I can't stress this enough "talk to your doctor"! He/she should be able to help tell you what supplements would be the best for you to take that are safe. Your doctor can help you with your nutrition so you can get the nutrients and vitamins that you need so you can breastfeed. Is it safe to breastfeed while maintaining a vegan diet?
You can get all your vitamins and minerals from veggies. It's also recommended to keep on taking your prenatal vitamins while you're breast feeding.
Daisy, those are just a few people.
How come you never point out the damage meat and animal products do to people? Parents feed their children fast food, candy, cake, cookies, pie, and give them sodas to drink. These children often get juvenile diabetes when they're young, and overweight. A lot of people got sick and died because of heart diseases, colon cancers, and strokes. All of them had diets that led to animal products. I wouldn't always point out that vegans always have the health problems and their children are unhealthy, because it's obvious people who eat meat have their health problems that lead to death as well.
Hello
Yes it is safe, have a look at the videos below in the "Whats your source" section. The rawfoodfamily on youtube are a family whose mother whilst pregnant and then feeding the baby later ate a pure raw vegan food diet. Click "date added" to watch the videos from the start that include their children etc. Her husband is called Ka and does the youtube videos, if you e-mail him or leave him a message on one of his youtube videos, he should be able to answer your question.

You get b12 from bacteria= the same way that cows do.
Eating mushrooms, spinach, leeks, marmite,vegemite- many forms of vegan b12.
And yes, perfectly safe.
I don't think it'd be a problem. I breast fed and took vitamins that were supplied by my doctor. I think your best bet when in doubt is to contact someone from your local la leche league and ask them.Is it safe to breastfeed while maintaining a vegan diet?
I dont think it will be...do some reasearch on it. google is a wonderful thing
If you're breastfeeding, the only thing the baby will get is what your milk contains. You're right to be concerned.
This vegan woman's baby died because she believed and adhered to a strict vegan diet. Her milk was deficient in B12 and vitamin A.

And this girl got very sick on her vegan diet, even though she supplemented. Some people's bodies just don't absorb and use supplements very well. She figured that out after three years. But by that time a baby would probably be damaged:
